700 Strong at Kaiser South Bay Picket Line

On December 11, 700 members and other union supporters turned out on the picket line at Kaiser South Bay to protest the reductions in force in violation of our contract. UNAC/UHCP members from all over Southern California came in support including Kaiser Baldwin Park, Kaiser San Diego, Kaiser Downey, Kaiser Fontana, Kaiser Orange County, Kaiser Ontario-Vineyard, Kaiser Panorama City and Kaiser Woodland Hills.

Picket Lines Spread to Riverside & Ontario

Picket lines protesting Kaiser’s job cuts have now spread to three locations — South Bay, Riverside, and Ontario. UHW has given notice at Kaiser South Bay that they will be joining the picket line on December 11. And in Orange County, UHW members are standing with us. Stand Up to Kaiser’s Cuts

On November 26, UNAC/UHCP leadership met to plan the response to Kaiser’s cuts in services and positions. We have since withdrawn from partnership activities. Informational picketing will now begin starting at Kaiser South Bay. UNAC/UHCP members at South Bay were hit the hardest with 70 positions eliminated— on November 30 we notified Kaiser that on December 11th UNAC/UHCP members will hold an informational picket to protest Kaiser’s actions and impact on patient care.
UNAC/UHCP Withdraws from Partnership Activities

On November 27, UNAC/UHCP President Ken Deitz, RN informed Kaiser Southern California President Ben Chu that UNAC/UHCP will be withdrawing from Labor Management Partnership activities until our dispute regarding the gross violation of our contract is resolved. On November 26, hundreds of UNAC/UHCP members and activists met to plan our response to Kaiser’s violations of our contract by eliminating positions without regard to seniority or Employment Income Security (EISA).
