Safe Staffing Campaign
As nurses, we’ve dedicated our lives to giving our patients the highest level of quality care. Having enough staff on the job means better care for our patients. But too often, we find ourselves working without adequate staffing which can make our jobs more difficult and harm the safety of our patients.
In 2004, we fought hard for safe staffing ratios and won California Department of Health Services (DHS) ratios.
Today and every day, we need to fight to make sure that management maintains those ratios. We depend on these ratios to ensure that our patients and fellow nurses are safe on the job.
We need to come together to demand that safe staffing be a top priority.

When We Stand Up for Patient Safety, Patients Win

On September 15, UNAC/UHCP delivered petitions with thousands of signatures from UNAC/UHCP RNs and other health care professionals, calling on Kaiser Permanente to respect scope of practice and maintain patient safety in telemetry. This comes in response to Kaiser’s plan to eliminate telemetry units throughout the Southern California region.

Our campaign has already won over 125 new RN positions in just two affiliates to wipe out dangerous staffing practices, but there is still much work to be done to ensure that all UNAC/UHCP represented facilities are safely staffed.
