Nurses held a rally and testified against the sale of SFMC and its parent Daughters of Charity Health Systems to Prime Healthcare Services on January 5. They demanded that vital community services such as trauma, labor and delivery, heart attack and the stroke unit be protected.

SFRNA Members Ratify New Contract

On Tuesday, December 23, St. Francis Registered Nurses overwhelmingly voted to accept a new three year collective bargaining agreement with St. Francis Medical Center and the Daughters of Charity Health System (DCHS). The new three year agreement will be applicable to any new owner of St. Francis, once the sale transaction has been finalized.

Congressional Delegation Meets with California AG Kamala Harris

Speaking out on behalf of safety net hospitals that may serve the two million new Medi-Cal-eligible Californians, a Congressional delegation delivered a letter stating that Prime’s business model of minimizing care to low income patients was completely incompatible with the communities served by the Daughters of Charity hospitals.

Press Release: Daughters of Charity’s Prime Bidder Not First Choice for Nurses

The registered nurses of St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood announced their opposition to the sale of their hospital and its parent Daughters of Charity Health System (DCHS) to Prime Healthcare on October 10. Nurses demanded that vital services such as trauma, labor and delivery, heart attack and the stroke unit remain open for a period of at least ten years from the date of assuming ownership.
