United Nurses Congratulate 2010 “Top Hospital” Affiliates
December 2010
The United Nurses Associations of California/Union of Health Care Professionals (UNAC/UHCP) congratulates affiliate members at six of its represented hospitals named to Leapfrog’s 2010 Top Hospitals list. The awardees were selected from a field of almost 1200 hospitals measured on crucial areas of patient safety and quality care.
“Our registered nurse and health care professionals are the frontlines of patient care at their facilities,” stated Kathy J. Sackman, RN, president of UNAC/UHCP. “They work with hospital management within a safe, union environment where they can openly address staffing and other patient safety concerns to ensure their facility meets the highest of standards for quality patient care.”
The six UNAC/UCHP affiliate hospitals that earned the prestigious national title of Leapfrog’s 2010 Top Hospitals are Kaiser Fontana, Kaiser Sunset, Kaiser Riverside, Kaiser San Diego, Kaiser Panorama City and Kaiser South Bay medical centers. UNAC/UHCP represents more than 6,500 employees at these six hospitals.
The 2010 Top Hospitals list includes 65 hospitals around the country that meet strict standards for quality, patient safety and efficiency. The top hospitals were measured against four critical areas of patient safety: electronic record keeping; standards for high-risk procedures; protocols and policies that reduce medical errors; and adequate nurse and physician staffing. Hospitals are also measured on how well they prevent infections and other hospital-acquired conditions and how they handle serious medical errors, among other things.
