Union In Brief – July 2013

July 2013

Lakewood Bargaining —

The Bargaining Team continues to fight for a fair scheduling process and protection of bargaining unit hours. At the last negotiations session, the LRNA team presented counter proposals on Floating, Cancellation, and Arbitration, but received no counter proposals from management. Bargaining resumes on July 16 and again in August.

Kaiser Therapists —

Negotiations continue for a first contract. Tentative agreement has been reached on: courtesy; strikes and lockouts; union membership; non-discrimination; safety and health; union representation; grievance and arbitration; corrective action and discipline; probation and evaluation; new or revised jobs; and seniority. Check unacuhcp.org for updates.

Inland Valley/Rancho Election Set —

The registered nurses at Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar and Rancho Springs Medical Center in Murrieta vote on whether to join UNAC/UHCP on July 18 and 19.

Corona Election Hearing Concludes —

On July 3, the hearing concluded on Corona’s objections to our election victory. The parties are now drafting written post-hearing briefs, and then an Administrative Law Judge will issue a decision. We hope to receive a decision upholding the RNs’ democratic selection of UNAC/UHCP representation by Summer’s end.

Kaiser Fontana Arbitration Victories —

In recent months, we have had four Kaiser Fontana members’ terminations appealed to arbitration. One involved a per diem RN who was terminated for not meeting one term of the per diem work agreement without notice or an opportunity for improvement, and the Arbitrator ordered Kaiser to reinstate the RN. The other three grievances settled favorably before the scheduled arbitration hearing commenced.
