UNAC/UHCP Wins Big For Corona RNs

October 2015

UNAC/UHCP filed charges against UHS-Corona with the National Labor Relations Board after unfair labor practices were reported by our RN members. Violations included inappropriately closing the Pediatrics department, inappropriately increasing use of traveler nurses, resulting in cancellation of staff RNs, and termination of RNs, all without bargaining. The National Labor Relations Board investigated and issued a formal complaint against UHS-Corona in February 2015.

After a long fight against UHS-Corona, UNAC/UHCP won a settlement for Corona RNs valued in excess of $200,000! More than 100 unit nurses will be receiving settlement checks as a result of these efforts.

Corona also agreed to post a lengthy notice on its intranet and bulletin boards and to have an employer representative do notice readings. The notice includes promises by the employer to abide by its duty to provide relevant information, to bargain in good faith regarding changes in conditions (including discipline), and to respect Weingarten rights.

This is a huge win for Corona RNs who have been negatively impacted by UHS-Corona unfair labor practices and the momentum is in our favor as our RN bargaining team continues to bargain their first contract with UHS-Corona management.
