SPNN Bargaining Update: September 26, 2011

Today the RN Bargaining Team presented management with counter proposals on education, PTO, Hours of Work and Overtime, and compensation. After receiving the Union's proposals management said they needed time to review and get back to the RN Team, but would not be ready until 1pm on Tuesday.
 
One issue that was raised, among the many issues, was management's refusal to provide RNs with the same level of education benefits that Sharp has committed to management nurses.
 
"As  RNs, in a magnet hospital where Sharp has a goal that 80% of the RNs hold a BSN by 2020, it is disappointing and quite insulting that Sharp doesn't step up to the table and provide direct bedside RNs with the same level of support they give their management," said Chris McGovern, President of SPNN.
 
Among the other issues discussed were the fact that the Union's wage proposal was in line with what RNs at area hospitals are receiving, and that Sharp has fallen behind the market for RN wages.
