PEOPLE Campaign Update – Jan/Feb’11 Voice
January 2011
In 2010, UNAC/UHCP conducted its most successful PAC drive in its history by signing up over 850 new health care professionals to contribute $4 per pay period to the PEOPLE program. The PEOPLE program helps provide the monetary resources necessary to make the voices of health care professionals heard in the national political and legislative process. This success was accomplished the old fashion way – one health care professional talking to another about the importance of political and legislative advocacy.
In the spring of 2010, each affiliate took responsibility to sign up 5 percent of their membership to give a voluntary MVP PAC contribution ($4 per pay period) by the end of the year. For example, an affiliate of 1000 members would have a goal of 50 contributors or 5 percent. And each affiliate would need to get 1 PEOPLE recruiter for every 12 members they signed up to contribute. This organizing model helped build an army of 65 recruiters signing up members to contribute to help protect their interests in the legislative process.
We are proud to announce that 11 UNAC/UHCP affiliates have reached the 5 percent goal. The affiliates include Kaiser Bakersfield, Kaiser Downey, Kaiser Sunset, Kaiser Panorama City, Kaiser South Bay, Kaiser West LA, Kaiser Woodland Hills, Kaiser Fontana, Kaiser Ontario Vineyard, Kaiser Riverside and Lakewood.
Furthermore, one PEOPLE PAC recruiter set a record of new sign-ups in a given year. That recruiter is none other than Kaiser Downey’s President Pam Broderson, NP. Pam signed up an impressive 83 (and counting) new PEOPLE contributors. Kaiser Downey is also the first affiliate to sign up 25 percent of their membership to give to the PEOPLE program.
UNAC/UHCP thanks and congratulates all of the affiliates and PEOPLE recruiters for achieving this impressive victory.
