Patient Care at Sharp is San Diego’s Biggest Story

October 2016

SHARP RNS' FIGHT FOR PATIENT SAFETY WAS SAN DIEGO'S BIGGEST STORY!

Hundreds of Sharp RNs and supporters took the pedestrian bridge over Harbor Drive by the San Diego Convention Center to pose with our fifty foot banner. If you're in San Diego, drive by. As of the afternoon of October 7, it was still up there!

Our Real Sharp Experience rally was the biggest story in San Diego on October 6, covered live by CW6, ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and Telemundo. We held our banners, cheered, waved flowers, danced and sang, and most of all, stood up for our patients.

We spoke to all of San Diego about how Sharp has been bleeding experienced nurses at an ever-increasing rate, and about the need for Sharp to pay truly competitive wages to stem the flow--to keep our experienced nurses at Sharp bedsides, and attract new nurses who will want to stay and make a career here.

We were joined by community supporters, including California Assemblymember Lorena Gonzalez, NUHHCE President Henry Nicholas, fellow nurses from Kaiser San Diego, medal-winning Olympic and Paralympic athletes, union brothers and sisters from UFCW 135, union sheet metal workers in town for their own convention, and San Diego members of the Interfaith Center
for Worker Justice.

Sharp RNs, and our ancillary staff who take care of patients every day, are the Real Sharp Experience, and we will do whatever it takes to protect our patients!

Meanwhile, management has agreed to meet for another bargaining session. Join us!
