Neighboring School Employees Tell Beverly Hospital: Settle a Fair Contract With RNs Now

February 2012

Neighboring school employees from Rio Hondo College and South Whittier Elementary visited Beverly Hospital recently to demand that management upgrade the hospital's leaking roof and broken equipment, and settle a fair contract without further delays. The delegation comprised members of California School Employees Association (CSEA) Chapters 477 and 348.

Several of the delegation members had close ties to the hospital, especially the members from the Rio Hondo Chapter. Rio Hondo Community College has educated and trained RNs andother students who have eventually gone on to work at Beverly Hospital. One individul in the delegation, Rowena Mendoza, was a former employee of the hospital.

The community delegation delivered a letter to CEO Gary Kiff voicing their concerns with slipping standards of care. “As the CEO of a community hospital serving the working class communities of Montebello, Pico Rivera,Monterey Park, El Monte, Whittier, and East Los Angeles,” said the letter, "you have an obligation to provide a high quality of care that residents deserve.”
