Secretary Candidate Biographies
Madhu Chawla
My name is Madhu Chawla and I am running for the office of KPASCO secretary in this fall's election. In my first term as secretary, as well as in my almost 6 years as a Kaiser Optometrist, I have supported our doctors and worked to protect and advance our profession.
Some of the ways in which I have served our colleagues, profession, and community are as follows:
Service to and on behalf of KPASCO:
- Current KPASCO secretary
- KPASCO rep for a total of 5 years first at Panorama City, then West LA, and now Woodland Hills.
- KPASCO rep glaucoma subcommittee member
- KPASCO rep contact lens practice subcommittee member
- Education Committee Chair (Annual Optometry Symposium Development)
- Eye Care Technology Committee member
- ICD 10 Committee representative for Southern California ODs
- Low Vision Subcommittee member
- LMP Council member at Woodland Hills
Service to the Profession of Optometry:
- California State Board of Optometry: Current Board Member
- Committee participation on behalf of the State Board: Practice and Education Committee (Chair); Legislative Committee; Public Relations Committee
- National Board of Examiners in Optometry: Past Proctor and Examiner
- International and local eye care clinics including service to underserved populations in India, South Africa, Chile, Laos, Romania, Los Angeles, Boston, and San Diego.
Service to our community:
- Reading tutor for the Los Angeles Public Library System
- Support of the shelter for homeless veterans
Throughout my years at Kaiser, I have enjoyed getting to know and work with many of you. I sincerely appreciate your past support and respectfully ask for your vote in the upcoming election.
