Kaiser Pharmacists

July 2015

The most important goal of SoCal Kaiser pharmacists negotiations was fulfilled at Kaiser National Bargaining – restoration of the pharmacists’ pension – when the entire Coalition of Kaiser Permanente Unions stood strong with UNAC/UHCP, refusing to settle the National Agreement without it, and forcing a late night decision from the very top of the company, CEO Bernard Tyson.

The bargaining team played a crucial role in making this all happen – their continued presence throughout negotiations solidified the Coalition’s resolve to stand with pharmacists.

This truly was a monumental accomplishment – nowhere in the US today does a company add back hundreds of millions of dollars in pension liability after having recorded the savings.

UPDATE: On August 6, 2015 the Pharmacists reached a full Tentative Agreement with Kaiser! Congratulations to the Bargaining Team for the great work they did in securing the TA.

“ It was truly a great display of union solidarity – 28 local unions from seven different internationals, representing 105,000 Coalition union members stood strong for 1,400 pharmacists who just joined the Coalition. I can honestly say that what occurred on the morning of Saturday, June 6, was the proudest moment of union solidarity that I have witnessed in my 25 years in the labor movement.”

— Bill Rouse, UNAC/UHCP Executive Assistant to the Officers and Chief Negotiator
