House Votes to Repeal ACA

May 2017

Today, the House of Representatives voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and replace it with an inadequate alternative plan.

This bill will take away insurance coverage from 24 million and likely make it unaffordable for millions more of our sickest Americans.

What do we know about this new plan?

  • 24 million Americans will lose health insurance;
  • Medicaid and our health system will face over $800 billion in cuts;
  • Protections for patients with pre-existing conditions are gone, leaving them to attempt to get coverage in a pricey high risk pool; and
  • A serious health problem will bankrupt a family.

The bill will now go to the Senate to be considered.

As a nurse, I cannot support fewer people having access to care and the sickest risking bankruptcy in order to be treated.

UNAC/UHCP will continue to stand for Americans’ access to quality, affordable health care. We urge the Senate to reject the proposed American Health Care Act (AHCA).
