Homeless Women’s Outreach Coalition Hosts Mother’s Day Brunch

May 2017

On May 13, we celebrated Nurses Week and Mother’s Day by hosting a brunch at Good Shepherd Shelter. We provided food, live music, donations, raffle prizes and entertainment for fifty women and their children. Representatives from our Homeless Women's Outreach Coalition, UNAC/UHCP State Officers, and 20 UNAC/UHCP members from UNAC UHCP Kaiser Sunset - LAMC KSRNA, UNAC UHCP South Bay, and UNAC UHCP Downey volunteered to make the day a special one. Kaiser Sunset Registered Nurses Association (KSRNA) members made the event possible by contributing funds to provide food and donations. Thank you to all who took time out of their busy lives to help others who are less fortunate!

Three months ago, we created the Homeless Women’s Outreach Coalition, an alliance made up of community service-oriented unions, local advocacy groups, and elected officials. The goal is to distribute essential supplies to homeless individuals located in the Echo Park and Silver Lake neighborhoods of Los Angeles and to host larger indoor events in neighborhoods where few homeless services are currently available.

Our coalition partners include Assemblymember Jimmy Gomez, G.O.A.L. Advocacy Foundation, the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO, Labor Community Services AFL CIO, United Way, Good Shepherd Center, Highly Favored: A Blessing to Others and PATH. Stay tuned for more events in the coming months!
