Happy Nurses Week

May 2017

Tomorrow we begin celebrating the most trusted profession in America, nurses. When you think about your nurse colleagues, one of the first things that probably comes to mind is nurses put their patients before everything else. Yet in this day and age, the definition of a patient is stretching.

As nurses we no longer can say the only patients we see are at work. Truly, our world is changing and we have a responsibility to look out for the well being of all in our communities.

At UNAC/UHCP, that has meant that we advocate for all patients, not just the ones we see on the job. In the past few years, we have gotten involved in our communities in many different ways. For instance, we've launched a homeless initiative where UNAC/UHCP members provide free basic care to homeless who otherwise might go decades without receiving care.

This Nurses Week, UNAC/UHCP members all over Southern California are taking part in activities meant to give back to our communities, including canned food drives, a march for sick babies, and many other charity events. Our members give to others during a week intended to celebrate their profession.

We are so proud of the enormous hearts of UNAC/UHCP members, this week and every week. Follow the community activities of your union sisters and brothers on our Facebook page or under the hashtags #unacuhcp and #NursesWeek2017.
