Garden Grove Bargaining Update

August 2013

We had a great member turnout from Med/Surg and ICU, as management told Charge Nurses and Case Managers, "Make a choice, your job, or the union!"

Our members turned out in force to tell management, "We will step down, rather than be at-will and unprotected!" Relief charge nurses joined in to say they would stay union and decline the charge assignment.

Management proposed several takeaways:

• Removing Tele, ACU, and Mother-Baby units from Specialty status
• Decreasing job posting times • Increasing the full time requirement from 32 to 36 hours
• Eliminating union participation on the safety committee

The union made strong proposals regarding floating, cancellation and staffing.  

We meet next on October 1 and 2.
