Elizabeth Hawkins, RN, Elected UNAC/UHCP Secretary
January 2017
We are pleased to announce that Elizabeth “Liz” Hawkins, RN, has been elected the new UNAC/UHCP Secretary!
Liz has been an RN for 32 years and a proud member of UNAC/UHCP for 27 years now.
She has a long history of union leadership. Over the years, she has seen our organization grow from many angles, as a delegate to numerous AFSCME, NUHHCE, and UNAC/UHCP conventions; Contract Specialist; Kaiser Riverside Health Care Professionals Association (KRHCPA) officer; and Staff Representative at Baldwin Park.
“I keep stretching and growing because there is danger in complacency. I am ready to help strengthen, unify, and grow our union,” says Liz.
Liz also played an instrumental role in the fight against workplace violence by providing crucial testimony at Cal/OSHA hearings as the draft regulations took shape, addressing politicians in Sacramento, and sharing her personal story to highlight the problem of being attacked in the workplace. Thanks to strong unified member action and advocacy, the Cal/OSHA regulations have been adopted and will go in effect in 2017.
“I am a planner. I put my plans into action. I get things done,” she says. “I’ve seen our union go from a small union of nurses to an even bigger union of health care professionals. My passion is this union and it is an honor to be elected your new UNAC/UHCP Secretary.”
