El Monte Mayor and Community Leaders Call on Beverly Hospital to Partner With Nurses
February 2012
El Monte Mayor Andre Quintero and community leader Jerry Velasco led a delegation of concerned El Monte residents to Beverly Hospital today to speak to CEO Gary Kiff. Mayor Quintero delivered the message that partnership with the nurses union can only strengthen the health of the hospital, speaking from his experience serving on the board of a San Gabriel Valley Hospital. Quintero assured management that UNAC/UHCP will work to support the Hospital in a renewed commitment to quality care.
“Beverly is a community hospital,” said Mayor Quintero, “and it's important to take into consideration the input the community and its elected officials have to offer while making important decisions for the hospital.”
“City of El Monte residents rely on the services of Beverly Hospital and some of my constituents also work there,” wrote Quintero in a letter to CEO Kiff. “For an entire year, I have been following the progress of your negotiations with the Beverly Nurses. Much like the disrespectful campaign you ran against the RNs during their successful election campaign to form a union, you continue to do the same by delaying the negotiation process.”
The letter called on the hospital to “settle a fair contract now without any further delays.”
