Corona RNs Help Raise Typhoon Relief Funds

December 2013

Typhoon Vigil-webMore than 9 million people were directly affected by Typhoon Haiyan when it struck the Philippines on November 8. UNAC/UHCP reacted quickly, pledging to contribute up to $20,000 of matching donations.

So Corona RNs helped organize a community vigil held December 9 at First Baptist Church in Corona, hosted by Pastor Jon Castillo. It was attended by many UNAC/UHCP members who live in the area, as well as members of the United Domestic Workers, a representative from Assemblymember Jose Medina’s office, UNAC/UHCP Treasurer Jettie Deden-Castillo and Secretary Charmaine Morales, and community members.

There was music, and testimony from Corona RNs and UNAC/UHCP staff members about the experiences of their families during and after the typhoon.

The UNAC/UHCP family mourns the tremendous loss of life that this typhoon has wrought. We are over halfway toward our fundraising goal, with money already distributed through the charity Feed the Hungry to provide emergency meals for survivors.
