Camp Laurel Needs Volunteer Medical Staff in Early July

June 2012

Camp Laurel lets children living with HIV/AIDS experience the magic and wonder of summer camp. UNAC/UHCP is once again helping Camp Laurel find Volunteer Medical Staff (LVN, RN, NP, PA or MD licensed in CA) for its Summer & Teen Camp--for the entire week or just half (July 1-4, or July 4-7). Volunteers can join in camp activities like campfires, hiking, arts & crafts and cabin skits.

Daria Smith, staff representative at Kaiser Fontana, has given up many of her annual vacations to work on this project. She has watched children she cared for in camp grow up and become camp counselors themselves. Through Daria, UNAC/UHCP learned about Camp Laurel and began recruiting members to volunteer.

Camp Laurel provides educational and support programs to children, youth and families affected by HIV/AIDS. Medical volunteers are responsible for distributing medication and for the general health of campers and staff. Previous HIV/AIDS experience is NOT necessary.

If you are interested in volunteering to bring hope and happiness to children affected by HIV/AIDS, complete the Camp Laurel application online here: http://www.laurel-foundation.org/volunteer/medical-volunteer/. Applications are due no later than Friday, June 22.
