California Budget Woes May Imperil Patient Care

May 2012

Governor Jerry Brown's revised budget is intended to close a nearly $16 billion deficit in the state of California. However, advocacy groups representing health care providers and patients, including UNAC/UHCP, are concerned about the impact of budget cuts on patients.

An early proposed cut would have removed 25 nurse inspector jobs from California, and cut fees paid by hospitals (and nursing homes) that are used to enforce patient safety laws.

More information on the budget and the suggested inspector cuts can be found here.
