AFSCME’s Willie Pelote Explains Why California’s Budget Proposition Does Work

AFSCME's Legislative and Political Director, Willie Pelote, co-authored an op-ed about Proposition 25, passed last year, that changed the way California deals with the budget process.

"However, the evidence is clear: Proposition 25 did exactly what it was designed to do, and what was promised. It allowed the Legislature to pass an on-time budget with a majority vote and docked their pay for every day past the June 15 constitutional deadline that a balanced budget was not passed. It demonstrated that solid incremental change can make a big difference."
