BHRNA Bargaining Update: January 20, 2015

On January 20, our Beverly Hospital Registered Nurses Association (BHRNA) started bargaining for our second contract.  Our bargaining team met with management for the first time and presented several proposals. Below is a short summary of our initial proposals.

Article 311: Meeting rooms at the hospital 

Our proposal would allow RNs to use meeting rooms at the hospital for union functions and meetings.  The current contractual language does not provide union RNs the ability to hold meetings at the hospital.

Article 315: Union bulletin boards in the break rooms 

Our proposal would allow a representative of the union up to 30 minutes, at a mutually agreed upon time during the hospital’s new employee orientation program agenda, to discuss the union and provide information to new RNs.

Article 1910: Pay for continuing education hours 

We have proposed increasing the amount of pay nurses are eligible for each calendar year for continuing education. Currently, regular full-time Registered Nurses are eligible for up to 15 hours – our proposal would increase this to 36 hours.  Regular part-time Registered Nurses, currently, may use up to eight hours. We are proposing to increase this to 16 hours each calendar year.

New: Successorship 

Our proposal guarantees that our contract and job be protected in the event the hospital is sold or transfers ownership.  If ownership of Beverly hospital changes, it is important that we are protected, our contract remains in place, and we are secure.  With these insurances we can continue to provide the best possible care for our patients without worrying about what will or will not happen to our jobs.
